The Power of Silent Advocates

For a long time, I believed success was all about what I could do on my own.

If I worked hard enough, built the right skills, and put myself out there, the opportunities would follow.

And while effort matters, I’ve learned that one of the biggest accelerators of success isn’t just what you do—it’s who is advocating for you when you’re not in the room.

Who’s quietly advocating for you?

Silent advocates are the people who pitch you when you’re not in the room. They believe in your work so much that they talk about it without being asked. They say things like:

  • “She’s the one who really runs the company.”

  • “You need to meet him—he’s brilliant at what he does.”

  • “This is exactly the person you’re looking for.”

They write you unsolicited LinkedIn endorsements.

They engage with your posts.

They introduce you to people who can change the course of your career.

These people are your amplifiers. They create a ripple effect that extends your reach far beyond what you could do alone.

For years, I didn’t think much about this concept, but looking back, I’ve had a front-row seat to its power—thanks to my mom.

Growing up, I was always a little embarrassed by how bold she was.

She would strike up conversations with strangers, hype up my siblings and me to everyone, and constantly introduce people in her network.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but she was my first silent advocate. She was amplifying my reach before I even understood what that meant.

Because of her, opportunities flowed. Doors opened. Connections formed. And I’ve learned that success often isn’t just about what you know—but who is willing to speak your name in a room full of opportunities.

So, here’s my challenge to you:

  1. Recognize your silent advocates. Who in your life is already vouching for you? Who’s hyping you up behind the scenes?

  2. Be that person for others. Take five minutes today to introduce two people who need to know each other. Endorse someone on LinkedIn. Leave a thoughtful comment on a friend’s post.

Because when you amplify others, the ripple effect always finds its way back to you.
